Dr. Allen was born in Hickory, NC and grew up on a horse farm. Growing up and still to this day, she has always loved playing music on any instrument she could get her hands on. She also loved sewing, wood-burning and all other types of crafts.
Around the age of 8, Dr. Allen’s older brother got braces and she became fascinated with dentistry, what she considers the melding of medical care and art. From then on, she was set on becoming a dentist.
She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology in three years at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA graduating with honors. During this time, she worked as a dental assistant learning from two wonderful general dentists. She attended dental school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore where she took in as much dental knowledge and experience as she could.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Allen had the desire to continue her education closer to home and completed a one-year Advanced General Dentistry Residency at East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine in Spruce Pine, NC.
Since finishing her training, she had been working in Asheville in a small private practice. The experience there has help solidify and translate her education into practice.
