What is Zoom! Whitening?

A popular alternative to tray methods, Zoom! whitening is a safe and effective bleaching process widely used to lighten the discoloration of enamel and dentin. Tooth discoloration may result from drinking coffee, tea, cola, and red wine, or from smoking. The aging process also can stain and darken your teeth.

Zoom! whitening with take-home trays can provide you with results in as little as 2 weeks, with regular use of trays and oral hygiene care such as brushing and flossing.

Before deciding whether Zoom! teeth whitening is right for you, your dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to ensure proper health, as well as talk with you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from whitening. The Zoom! Whitening Procedure

  • Once you're at home and ready to whiten, you'll set out your trays and place a small dot of the enclosed whitening gel inside the tray for each tooth. It's important to just use a small dot and not overfill the trays to avoid side affects such as temporary burning or sensitivity.
  • For optimal whitening, you'll wear your trays twice daily for 15 minutes for two weeks. Some patients may experience slight sensitivity while whitening. If you do experience sensitivity, try reducing your bleaching time or only bleach your teeth every other day. If sensitivity persists, let your dentist know.
  • Once you reach your desired whiteness, use your whitening trays once every 4-6 weeks for maintenance! Toothpaste containing whitening agents may also be suggested to help maintain the results of the procedure.

To help maintain the effects of Zoom! whitening, your dentist may also advise you to avoid tobacco products or certain foods and beverages (like tea, coffee, red wine, or cola) to avoid staining your teeth. Another way to maintain healthy and shiny teeth is to practice an appropriate oral hygiene regimen to prevent stains from reforming. You should also see your dentist regularly for scheduled teeth cleanings.
