Veneers are thin porcelain facing that are bonded to the front of teeth to change the color, shape, positioning, or size of teeth. Veneers are typically installed for cosmetic reasons. They are a simple solution to correct chipped, stained or gapped teeth in one appointment.
For veneers to be placed, the underlying tooth will be prepared by removing a minor amount of enamel from the front and sides of the teeth. Usually 0.5 – 1.5 millimeter is removed, which is less than when installing a crown or cap.
The dentist will then make an impression of your prepared teeth, and decide which veneer shade will best fit your smile. If the color of your veneer can be matched in-house, Autumn Dental will will fit, adjust and bond your custom veneer(s).
If your veneers require a custom shade to match the rest of your smile, the veneers will be sent to a lab where they will be hand-painted to match and sent back in a few business days. You can request temporary veneers to wear in the meantime. At your next visit, the dentist will bond your new veneers. Then, you’ll be ready to go!
With regular care, veneers can last up to 10 to 15 years.
Veneers, just like natural teeth, require brushing, flossing and regular check-ups. To avoid excessive wear and tear of your veneers, avoid biting your fingernails, ice, hard candies and other hard foods. For patients that clench or grind their teeth, a night guard is recommended while sleeping.
